i love my counselor because she refuses to pry. don’t even know if she knows that’s an option, I have so rarely met a person who stays so thoroughly in her lane.

#the thing about me is that I’m an open book with an expressive face. and also I keep a lot inside and refuse to speak on things #especially things that are bothering me #and that can be irresistible to some people who just want to dig into my soul #and it’s why I was afraid of counseling for so long. that someone would be like ‘what can we unearth in Maria’s psyche’#and she just doesn’t care/doesn’t try/is only going to take me at face value #so there is lots I don’t tell her/refuse to speak on. and you know what doesn’t it MATTER. because the point is not to push myself #to some arbitrary measure of absurd honesty/openness but to talk about stuff when/if it’s helpful #also a huge way she’s already helped me is she’s just like ‘girl you’re fine’#no but actually though. she’s always like ‘you sound like you’re thriving to me!’#and she’s also just like ‘you’re busy you have energy you have plans you make good eye contact you clearly have confidence’#with the underlying message being. the thing that’s hurting you the most is your own anxiety. which sounds obvious lol #but it is kind of the sheer act of worrying itself. the other stuff is (mostly) in order #and that has helped. she also has cured me of some wrong self/belief stuff.#like I was once like ‘I’m not organized! I make no plans!’ and she was like ‘your plans have plans what are you talking about’#she also said I was highly logical and analytical and didn’t act emotionally/from a place of emotion #and I was just like ‘pikachu face’ because one of my deepest beliefs was that I WAS an emotionally driven person #and she was like nope. you’re highly rational. It's always tempting to debate bigots about their bigotry, but honestly the best thing you can do is often to directly help those affected by said bigotry.

Bigotry doesn't exist to be debated. People who are bigots do not care about debate - they care about humiliating their opponents. You cannot outsmart somebody who doesn't give a flying fuck about their position being incorrect. You will be playing a completely different game by trying to debate somebody out of their bigotry.

The best thing you can do is to show up for the marginalized. Check in on them, talk to them, and engage with them as people. Ask them if they would like help and then respect their answer to the best of your capabilities. Oftentimes, that will be sufficient enough and will go a long way.

#ally advice #the bigot will not rely on trusted peer-reviewed sources. they will rely on charisma and charm and humiliating and degrading the other team #because a bigot doesn't believe in 'you go low and we go high'. like... they're bigots because they choose to go low #so they will use dirty tactics in order to absolutely obliterate your point because you aren't going to be playing the same game #this is why i don't debate transphobes. i will engage in conversation but i do not debate bigots anymore #like do y'all remember in 2016 when the online alt-r*ght started to grow exponentially? that's the same sort of thing #many people argue that debating bigots has the chance of bringing them over to your side but...#...personally i don't really value that as a *sole* strategy or something we should focus our energy on #i absolutely will never debate a bigot because i know the stakes and i know that they'd play dirty (especially if it is in front of others)#inspired by a conversation with my dad where he surprised me with his outlook and views #(i'd assume that we would disagree heavily but no... he actually pretty much completely agreed)#(which isn't a huge achievement BUT we are pretty different people with very different views at times)#(i'm a carbon copy of him but if he came back Wrong)

the "otto killed violet on accident via botched tracheotomy and mycroft bribed the judge to prosecute as murder" is still my favorite ending for a lot of reasons (i personally think it makes the most sense and i think you can still have the other conclusions in the other endings work w it too e.g. sherlock giving his mom the drug plus richter sedating her when she was attacking him = allergic reaction. hence tracheotomy. and i like that mycroft narrates the slides at the end of it). but if im honest i think my favorite part is mycroft still arguing with sherlock while he has a gun pointed at his face

I cannot survive this day lol
